Meet Mike Valiant

Zerra Landscaping’s founder, Mike Valiant, got his first taste of gardening and landscaping in his early childhood. Mike’s mother was an avid gardener and carved off a piece of the veggie patch for him to nurture a garden of his own, which left a lasting impression on him.

As a teen, Mike’s love of nature and plants continued to grow as he worked at a local retail nursery developing a keen eye for plant composition and a knowledge of plants and their characteristics.

In 1995, at the age of 21, Mike ventured out on his own forming Zerra Landscaping to utilize and build on his passion and the knowledge he had gained in his teens.

Riyn MacGregor

Riyn MacGregor is a seasoned landscape professional with more than 30 years of experience in design, construction, and irrigation. Riyn has established a strong reputation in the Okanagan for delivering high-quality, thoughtfully executed outdoor environments.

Since beginning his career in Kelowna in 1990, Riyn has built extensive expertise across the full spectrum of landscape development. His work is guided by proven best practices, meticulous attention to detail, and a belief that true craftsmanship should endure for decades.

Now part of the Zerra Landscaping team, Riyn brings his entrepreneurial leadership and deep technical knowledge to support the company’s continued growth and commitment to excellence. He remains dedicated to building landscapes that are not only beautiful, but durable, functional, and tailored to each client’s vision.

Ryan Smith

A seasoned veteran, Ryan joined Zerra Landscaping in 1999 during its formative years. Ryan’s experience and hard work have seen him at the helm of many successful projects. Experience, skill and organization, as well as his quiet confidence assure a stunning result every time.

Mykola Anisimov

Mykola joined the Zerra team in the spring of 2023, having made his way from the Ukraine. Possessing a degree in Silviculture and having operated a successful landscape company of his own, Mykola brings a breadth of knowledge and the skills necessary to handle complex projects to outstanding effect.

Jude Valiant

Having grown up watching his father build a successful landscape business, Jude decided to get involved working with the team in his late teens. His enthusiasm for the industry and his rapidly growing skillset has made him a great asset in the 4 years he has been in the fold.

Brenda Alexander

Although relatively new to the landscape industry, Brenda has a keen eye honed by her background in interior and textile design.In 2020, she completed an extensive design and horticulture program through Guelph University, preparing her for the dynamic and exciting world of landscape design and planning of outdoor spaces.

In addition to creative and thoughtful design, Brenda is familiar with the complex rules and regulations required to construct and develop on lakefront and hillside lots.

Melissa Croft

Melissa has been in the industry since 2006. She made the Okanagan her home after studying horticulture at Kwantlen University with a focus on landscape design. She works alongside the construction industry and co-owned a successful landscape design/build company before selling in 2017.

Melissa previously worked in-house as Zerra Landscaping’s designer. Today, she enjoys the flexibility of making her own schedule and continues to work closely with the Zerra Landscaping team.
